Avon is a Central Indiana town west of Indianapolis in Hendricks County.  Avon was incorporated in 1995.  The population estimate in 2019 was 18,706 residents.  The name Avon actually comes from the River Avon which is located in England. Another tidbit of geotrivia: Avon was the first Tree City USA in Hendricks County.  Avon has a total area of 18.87 square miles at an average elevation of 833 feet.  Avon is approximately 10 miles from the Indianapolis International Airport, and 13 miles from Monument Circle in Downtown Indianapolis.  

The Avon Community School Corporation serves approximately 9,970 students in grades PK-12 and spent an average of $9,122 per student in 2020.  There are 12 school buildings in the Corporation and 651 full time educators on staff.  All of Avon Schools’ statewide student assessment scores were above the state average in 2019.  Avon High School has a 97.7% 4-year graduation rate with 56.1% of students earning an Honors diploma.  Avon High School’s mascot is the Oriole.  The Avon Marching Black and Gold marching band has won several state championships over the years.
