Boone County, Indiana is located northwest of Indianapolis.  Named after frontiersman Daniel Boone, Boone County was formed in 1830. Lebanon is the county seat and Zionsville is the largest city.


Boone County is composed of 7 incorporated cities and towns (Lebanon, Advance, Jamestown, Thorntown, Ulen, Whitestown, and Zionsville) that are served by 3 school districts (Lebanon, Western Boone County, and Zionsville) and a number of private and parochial schools. 


The median household income is $47,697 and the median age is 38.6 years.  The population estimate in 2019 was 67,843 residents at a density of 158.4 residents per square mile.  Composed of mostly rural landscapes with ⅔ of the land in cultivation, Boone County has a total area of 423.25 square miles, of which 0.34 square miles are water.  


Interstates 65, 74, 465, and 865, US Routes 52, 136, 421, and several State Roads run through the County.  Boone County is part of Indiana’s 4th and 5th Congressional districts, Indiana Senate districts 21 and 23, and House of Representatives districts 28, 38, and 87.  As of January 2022, there were 15 listings on the National Register of Historic Places located within Boone County.
