Morgan County, Indiana is located southwest of Indianapolis.  Named after General Daniel Morgan, who defeated the British at the Battle of Cowpens in the Revolutionary War, Morgan County was formed in 1822. Martinsville is both the county seat and the largest city.

Morgan County is composed of 7 incorporated cities and towns (Bethany, Brooklyn, Martinsville, Monrovia, Mooresville, Morgantown, Paragon) and a long list of unincorporated places that are served by 3 school districts (Eminence, Monroe-Gregg, and Mooresville).

The median household income is $47,697 and the median age is 39.9 years.  The population estimate in 2019 was 70,489 residents at a density of 173.6 residents per square mile.  Composed of mostly rural landscapes with extensive woodlands, Morgan County has a total area of 409.43 square miles, of which 5.46 square miles are water including the White River Valley.

Interstates 69 and 70 and several State Roads run through the County.  Morgan County is part of Indiana’s 4th and 9th Congressional districts, Indiana Senate districts 35 and 37, and House of Representatives districts 47 and 91.  As of January 2022, there were 27 listings on the National Register of Historic Places located within Morgan County including several homes, farms, schools, and gymnasiums.
