The first trading post in Central Indiana was established there in 1802, by William Connor and his wife Mekinges Connor, a Lenape woman. They lived in the area’s first log cabin. William Connor and Josiah Polk laid out Noblesville in 1823. It was designated the Hamilton County seat in 1824 and later incorporated in 1851. Noblesville was named after James Noble, one of the first two US Senators from Indiana, though rumor has it that it was actually named after Lavina Noble, to whom co-founder Josiah Polk was engaged.
